At La Petite Ecole in Singapore, every child learns and grows in a caring, close-knit environment designed to support their development. Through play, exploration and discovery, children build their knowledge and gradually develop their independence.
Located in the heart of the family-friendly and multicultural Holland Village neighbourhood, the school is organised around a flexible central shared space connecting the classrooms and administrative offices. As a vibrant hub for school life, it reflects the strong sense of community at the heart of our school. It also encourages collaboration across classes and provides an ideal setting for complementary learning activities in small groups, beyond the traditional classroom environment.
The space includes a bright and welcoming library, an area for physical and movement activities, a play corner and a green wall reflecting the school’s commitment to sustainable development.
School is not simply a place for academic learning: it also plays an essential role in every child’s overall development and wellbeing. Children are better able to learn when they feel safe, supported and understood. We therefore strive to provide a secure and nurturing environment, together with support tailored to each child’s individual needs.
A multidisciplinary student support team
To support every aspect of each child’s development, La Petite Ecole in Singapore draws on the expertise of a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
A full-time school nurse is available on site to monitor students’ health, provide first aid and contribute to health education and prevention initiatives. A school psychologist is also present one day a week to support children, families and the educational team whenever needed.
The school also works closely with an occupational therapist and with French- and English-speaking speech and language therapists. This multidisciplinary approach helps us gain a fuller understanding of each child’s individual needs and, in consultation with their family, ensure coordinated support between the school and the professionals involved.
EMOTIONS AT LA PETITE ECOLE
Children need support to discover their emotions. At La Petite Ecole, we do not try to hide or hold back our emotions, providing our pupils with the tools required to learn to recognise, accept, express and manage these emotions.
SELF-CONFIDENCE & SELF-ESTEEM
From a young age, children need support to grow, overcome obstacles and persevere. They are highly dependent on those around them, who give them, or not, the confidence and self-esteem to progress. At La Petite Ecole, we believe that teaching children to value themselves as individuals is the greatest gift an adult can give them. Parents and teachers must therefore constantly show their pupils/children that they believe in their ability to improve and overcome difficulties.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
To this end, our philosophy fully integrates mistakes into the learning process: our teaching team is trained to value the process and efforts of pupils, rather than the result. Children are encouraged to do things for themselves, experiment and try things out.
