The ELA Dictation: A Meaningful Act of Solidarity
On Tuesday, 14 October, our elementary students will proudly take part in the ELA Dictation (Écris pour agir – Write to take action), a symbolic and impactful initiative organised by the ELA Association to raise awareness of leukodystrophies, a group of rare genetic diseases.
This is more than just a dictation. It’s a powerful opportunity for students to reflect on the meaning of solidarity, inclusion, and empathy — and to contribute, in their own way, to a cause greater than themselves.
A Special Occasion at La Petite Ecole
This year’s event holds special significance, as La Petite Ecole will have the honour of welcoming Mr Nolain, Counsellor for Cooperation and Cultural Action at the French Embassy in Singapore, who will be reading the dictation to our students. He will be joined by Mr Cario, Deputy Director of AEFE, making this a memorable moment in our school’s journey.
A short assembly will be held at 9:00 a.m. in the main hall to present the initiative and share the official ELA video. The dictation will then take place in each classroom, where teachers will adapt the activity to suit their students’ levels and needs.
A Dictation Followed by Action
In the spirit of “words into action,” this meaningful writing activity will be followed by a solidarity run, scheduled for the week after the mid-term break. During the week of 11 October, students will receive fundraising booklets, allowing families and friends to sponsor their efforts and support ELA’s cause.
You can find out more about the campaign on the official ELA website.
Why It Matters
At La Petite Ecole, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom. Initiatives like the ELA Dictation help our students become not only better learners, but also more compassionate citizens of the world.
We are proud to be part of this important event and to support our students as they put their words — and feet — in motion for a cause that truly matters.
Stay tuned for photos and reflections from this special day!
