Many parents recognise the familiar struggle: helping their child settle at night, managing frequent awakenings, or navigating a bedtime that stretches much longer than expected. At the same time, adults often face their own difficulty disconnecting from screens and transitioning to rest \u2014 and these habits inevitably influence family routines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">To support our community, La Petite Ecole welcomed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/nicola-cann-486972144\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Dr Nicola Cann<\/b><\/span><\/a>, sleep psychologist, for a workshop dedicated to understanding sleep in children aged <span class=\"s1\"><b>6 to 10<\/b><\/span>. The session aimed to demystify the science of sleep and provide families with practical, research-based tools.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bloctext bloctext--nocolor bloctext--haspattern\" id=\"bloc_6_2\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-12 col-lg-4 col-xl-3 mb-1\">\n<h2><span>Understanding the Foundations of Sleep<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-12 col-lg-8 col-xl-9\">\n<div class=\"text pl-lg-4\">\n<p class=\"p1\">Dr Cann introduced parents to the two key processes that govern children\u2019s sleep:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Circadian rhythm<\/b><\/span>, which sets the internal clock that tells us when to wake and when to wind down<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Sleep drive<\/b><\/span>, the build-up of pressure for sleep over the course of the day<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Understanding these mechanisms helps parents make sense of their child\u2019s natural rhythms, energy fluctuations, and evening behaviours.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"bloctext bloctext--nocolor bloctext--haspattern\" id=\"bloc_6_3\">\n<div class=\"container\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-12 col-lg-4 col-xl-3 mb-1\">\n<h2><span>The Power of a Bedtime Routine<\/span><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-12 col-lg-8 col-xl-9\">\n<div class=\"text pl-lg-4\">\n<p class=\"p1\">A key focus of the workshop was the pivotal role of a <span class=\"s1\"><b>consistent bedtime routine<\/b><\/span>.
